police officer, Bripda Haris Sitanggang, has undergone its first trial at the Depok District Court (PN) for the murder of an online taxi driver Sony Rizal Taihitu. The trial was scheduled to read the indictment.
In the trial Bripda Haris was charged with aggravated murder and/or robbery and/or abuse which resulted in the victim’s death. The trial took place at the Depok District Court, Wednesday (14/6/2023).
“So today’s agenda is only the reading of the indictment as we have heard earlier, so the reading of the indictment is prepared in primary subsidiaryity to Article 339 of the Criminal Code then subsidiary 1 to Article 338 of the Criminal Code or both Article 365 paragraph 3 in conjunction with Article 351 of the Criminal Code,” said the prosecutor. (JPU) Tohom Hasiholan told reporters at the Depok District Court, Wednesday (14/6).
During the trial, a number of sadistic facts of Bripda Haris’ murder were revealed for the sake of controlling the car belonging to Sony Rizal Taihitu. Here are the facts.
1) Intention to Rob to Cover Debt
The public prosecutor (JPU) in a hearing at the Depok District Court (PN) read out the charges against Bripda Haris Sitanggang. During the trial, it was revealed that at first Bripda Haris killed the victim.
“Initially around January 2023 the defendant was contacted by the witness Pitnem Leonard Sitanggang asking for help in finding a used car, then on January 18 2023 the defendant contacted the witness Pitnem Leonard Sitanggang and provided information that there was a 2020 Terios car with a selling price of IDR 180,000,000, – (one hundred and eighty million rupiah) and can be paid in installments with a down payment of Rp. 92,000,000 (ninety-two million rupiah),” explained the prosecutor at the trial at the Depok District Court, Wednesday (14/6).
Pitnem witness Leonard Sitanggang was also interested and immediately transferred the down payment several times to Haris. However, after transferring money to buy a car, Bripda Haris instead used the money for online gambling until he lost.
Furthermore, on Friday (20/1/2023) at around 20.00 WIB after work, Haris Sitanggang informed Pitnem that he had brought the car he ordered from Jakarta to Jambi. However, Haris did not reveal that he actually spent Pitnem’s money on gambling.
“It was at that time that the defendant’s intention arose to commit car theft with random targets, in which the car the defendant would later hand over to the witness Pitnem Leeonard Sitanggang as if the car was an ordered car that had been purchased by the defendant,” said the prosecutor.
2) Bripda Haris Prepares a Knife for Robbing
After the intention arose to rob, Bripda Haris then bought a knife for Rp. 200,000 in Depok. He prepared the knife as a tool to commit car theft.
“Then the knife was kept by the defendant in a tote bag containing clothes and toiletries,” he said.
From Depok, Haris then went to the Kampung Rambutan Terminal to park the motorcycle, while the defendant took the items in his bag and other personal items. After that, Haris Sitanggang looked for online taxi car targets that stopped by the side of the road.
However, at that time Haris did not have the courage to steal a car. He then took a TransJakarta bus headed for Blok M while monitoring the situation for targets.
