The former left-back is delighted to be able to support the Gazprom initiative, which aims to bring the sport closer to the younger generation.
Roberto Carlos is pleased that he can continue to fill his role as Football for Friendship ambassador. He points out that the initiative has helped children from all over the world come together and show their love for the sport.
The Brazilian left-back, who played for Real Madrid and Inter, started working on the Gazprom-sponsored project last year and continued to play his role in the very turbulent 2020 due to the corona pandemic.
As the F4F Global Ambassador, he reiterated his intention to work with young people and increase their love for sport.
“Every year girls and boys come together on the pitch for a real international tournament and they learn to talk to their peers from different countries,” said the Brazilian.
“In 2020, Football for Friendship will once again bring together young people with a passion for sports from around the world. Everyone here is learning something new, making new friends and experiencing something unforgettable,” he added.
“It is very important to support such initiatives. Football for Friendship is a real gift because the younger generation has the opportunity to realize their potential and fulfill their dreams,” said Roberto Carlos.
“I really liked the idea of doing sport with children and adults. The most important things are friendship and sport. Football for Friendship is a unique project where all children from around the world have the same opportunities,” he added .
Although Roberto Carlos has now retired from his career, he still keeps a close eye on football.
During his career he was considered one of the best left-backs in the world. He believes this title is now due to Marcelo, his successor in Madrid and in Brazil’s national team.
“I think Marcelo is a phenomenon. Whenever I am asked, I say that he is an excellent player. The types of players are obviously different, but at the moment Marcelo is the benchmark for all other left-backs,” said Roberto Carlos.
He is also delighted that Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, two young compatriots, have now gained a foothold at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
“Vinicius is a real star. It plays real Brazilian football and he likes one-on-one,” he said.
“These days there are no players who have the same speed as him. At the moment, for me personally, Vinicius is the example of a Brazilian who also plays Brazilian football,” he added.
“Rodrygo is a humble guy, but his level of play is excellent. I like these two Brazilians a lot. Vinicius is quick and a clever player. But Rodrygo plays well-considered and balanced. That’s cool!” Said Roberto Carlos.
The 2002 world champion also trusts Brazil coach Tite to lead the team to great success again.
“The problem is that everyone wants the national team from my time back in order to get the title back,” he said.
“It’s not an easy task, because we had great players back then: Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Kaka, Robinho. But Tite works well, he is patient and he has already had good results in the Copa America, the Confederations Cup and the World Cup scored “, said Roberto Carlos.
“Our national team was number one in the world. Now we are third behind Belgium and Spain. But Tite can still achieve his goals and we can win our titles,” he added.
