As a ‘neighbor’ of Tomorrowland, Marina Verschragen from Nachtegaalstraat in Boom has handed out lucky butterflies and flowers to passing festival-goers in recent years. She is repeating that heartwarming initiative again this year. That also inspired Viggo, Kristof and Rik to do something special. The boy and dad from the Flemish Brabant village of Ruisbroek and the grandpa from Boom have taken up residence a stone’s throw away in the street where countless ‘People of Tomorrow’ pass by. “We are here with a world map. Festival-goers can place a flag at their place of origin. We hope to fill as many countries as possible,” says Kristof.
After the first weekend, the trio was already allowed to tick off a lot of countries. There are already many flags, especially in Europe, North America and South America. “Many Indians and Australians also come to Tomorrowland. And from New Zealand, people from the northern part of the island are particularly present. Those from the south, according to their compatriots, prefer to go skiing. It is winter there now.”
The world map can count on a lot of interest. The trio even gets a typical candy from a Mexican from his birthplace. To top it off, Jerahmeel Bautista (25) and Majed Al-Ansari (27) place the very first flag on Qatar. “It’s our very first Tomorrowland. What we expect? Lots of fun and little sleep.”
