Sharjah 24 – Asaad Khalil:
Brighton Football Club announced the signing of striker Ansu Fati from Barcelona, Spain, on a season-long loan.
Spanish international Fati, 20, participated in 36 La Liga matches last season, which saw the team crowned the title.
“It’s a huge signing for all of us,” Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi told the club’s website.
He added, “I am confident that Ansu Fati will help us reach a new goal, and we will also help him return to the level he deserves to be in.”
Ansu Fati rose from the Barcelona Academy, and participated for the first time with the first team in August 2019, after which he became the youngest scorer for Barcelona in both the Spanish League and the Champions League.
David Weir, Brighton’s director of technical affairs, said: “Ansu is one of the most prominent young players in the world, and he has a lot of experience at the domestic and European levels, despite his young age.”
He added, “This season is the most important in the club’s history, and we are really happy that a player of Ansu’s quality will be part of our team.”
