The Bundesliga is booming – but apparently not in England.
The 1st and 2nd leagues set another record for spectators last season. More than 20 million fans came to the stadiums. The leagues are absolute crowd pullers – also on TV.
But in England, football fans are not very interested in German football. At least that is what Fabian Hürzeler (31) thinks.
In the summer, after FC St. Pauli was promoted to the Bundesliga, the coach surprisingly moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League.

His experience with the viewing habits of the English: “They are relatively uninterested in the Bundesliga. If I turn on Union Berlin against St. Pauli on a Friday night, the hall empties relatively quickly.”
In an interview with the “FAZ”, the young coach also explained the difference between the Premier League and the Bundesliga. “It is the best league in the world, you play against the best players, the best teams, so the opponent can score a goal at any second. It is remarkable what individual quality you are faced with there,” said Hürzeler.
The higher intensity is also due to the more generous refereeing of the game, says the 31-year-old coach: “Because the referees let the game run more, the game becomes more intense, wilder, you have a lot of transition moments.”
Hürzeler has made the transition from the 2nd Bundesliga to the English Premier League brilliantly. He won the first two games with Brighton – 3-0 against Everton, 2-1 against Manchester United. This was followed by a draw at Arsenal FC (1-1). A dream start. Hürzeler is currently in third place with Brighton – behind champions Manchester City and Liverpool FC.
