Brighton (16th) achieved an important victory in their quest for permanence by beating a direct rival, Newcastle (17th), 3-0 this Saturday in a match corresponding to matchday 29 of the Premier League.
Belgian Leandro Trossard (45 + 3), Danny Welbeck (51) and Frenchman Neal Maupay (68) scored goals in this match.
Now with 32 points, Brighton extends their lead over their rival on Saturday to five points and their margin over the relegation zone to six points, which is marked by Fulham (18th), defeated on Friday by 2 to 1 in their stadium by Leeds United (11th) by Marcelo Bielsa.
It is the second consecutive triumph for Brighton, after the 2 to 1 harvested last Sunday in Southampton, which represents a respite for the ‘Seagulls’.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have been six games in a row without winning, precisely since they beat Southampton in early February.
The main focus of interest in English football this weekend is not in the matches scheduled in the Premier League, but in the quarter-finals of the English Cup, which are played between Saturday and Sunday.
Manchester City and Southampton qualified this Saturday, after beating Everton 2-0 and Bournemouth (2nd) 3-0, respectively. On Sunday the quarters will be completed with the Chelsea-Sheffield United and Leicester-Manchester United duels.
Six matches of the 29th English matchday were played in advance between March 2 and 4 to release the participating clubs in those FA Cup quarters.
