The high-speed train company that operates in South Florida, Brightline, plans to make changes to its passenger package rates starting June 1, which will affect users who frequently use the routes between Miami and West Palm Beach.
At the moment, those traveling between these destinations have the option of obtaining 40 one-way tickets for a price close to $400, however, this offer will disappear when a new fare policy is applied.
Initially, users will be able to obtain 20 travel tickets, of which 10 will be free. Once this package is sold out, the cost of 40 tickets will be offered at $1,400, which represents a considerable increase of $1,000.
Sources in the company indicate that the changes are intended to improve efficiency in travel management and optimize the customer experience. Despite the notable increase in prices, the company will continue to offer special discounts for students and educators who use its services.
Brightline has expanded its routes in the last year, adding additional stops from South Florida to Orlando. In March, the opening of a new station in Brevard County, specifically in the city of Cocoa, was announced.
The route that connects Miami with Orlando was inaugurated last year, and has become one of the most used, benefiting thousands of travelers seeking to travel efficiently between these cities and others located along the way.
For now, Smart service tickets are expected to maintain their initial price of $79 on their way to Orlando, while Premium seats will cost more than $149. Tickets for children maintain their price of $39, this in order to provide accessible options to people of all ages.
Currently, Brightline is the only privately owned passenger railroad in the United States, and began development in March 2012, under the name All Aboard Florida.
The project was sponsored by Florida East Coast Industries, a real estate development firm belonging to Fortress Investment Group.
Construction of the infrastructure began in 2014, and the route began to be used in January 2018, initially connecting Fort Lauderdale with West Palm Beach.
