Bright accessories in fashion: do they look clownish?

  • DOES THAT STYLE?

    Henriette Kuhrt

In winter I like to wear a red scarf with yellow dots with my gray winter jacket. My wife says it’s too bright to make me look like a clown. Does that have style? – Achim P., Winterthur

Oh, dear Achim, should I talk you through your favorite scarf? There are no problem areas for women, there are no problem scarves for men. It’s a scarf, my goodness, how much damage can it do? If you were to walk through Winterthur in a red two-piece suit with yellow dots, then I might find this behavior a little striking.

But as? As long as you don’t wear it to funerals, presentations in the financial sector, in court or at the notary’s office, I don’t see a clown problem. It would be good if you cheer up people a little in their peculiar love of gray coats. Or, as it would say in fashion magazines: set accents with lively accessories.
