Brigadier General Shlomi Binder, a graduate of Leo Buck, will be appointed head of AMN

Brigadier General Shlomi Binder spent his military service in a patrol of the General Staff. The IDF announced yesterday (Thursday) a series of senior appointments to the General Staff, who stood out in combat in the field and at the headquarters during the Iron Swords War. The head of the retired IDF, Major General Aharon Haliva, will be replaced by Brigadier General Shlomi Binder, head of the Operations Division in the Operations Division, which he coordinated under his command. Binder will be promoted to the rank of Major General. By the way, both Binder and Haliva were born, raised and educated in Haifa.

Binder, 49, attended Leo Buck High School and was a scoutmaster and guide. After a year of service in the Golan Heights, he enlisted in the IDF in November 1993 and volunteered for the IDF patrol. After paratrooper training, he went through a training course as a fighter in the unit, and went to the infantry officers’ course, at the end of which he returned to the unit and was appointed a team commander. Binder participated in the fighting in southern Lebanon and in 1999 was seriously injured by an explosive device during an exercise. After several months of recovery, he returned to the unit, leading several operations in the Second Lebanon War and appointed deputy commander of the unit.

In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and appointed commander of the Agoz unit, and three years later he returned to the General Staff Patrol, this time as a commander with the rank of colonel. He led the unit in Operation Rock Ethan, and for the manner in which the patrol operated under his command in the operation, it was awarded the Chief of Staff At the end of his duties in 2016, the patrol was awarded an additional Chief of Staff for the operations carried out during his command.

At the end of 2016, Binder was appointed commander of the Golani Brigade and served in the position for two years, and after returning from a year of studies in Washington, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general and appointed commander of the Galilee formation. In October 2022, he was appointed head of the Operations Division at the IMT.

Binder is married to Yael and has three children. Has a bachelor’s degree in agronomy from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a master’s degree in strategy from the National Security University in Washington.
