ATHLETICS
Bronze for Team Breisgau
After a two-year hiatus, around 520 Masters athletes gathered in Lage, East Westphalia, for the German team championship in the senior classes. In the women’s W 60, the Breisgau starting community with athletes from different clubs scored 5162 points and thus won the bronze medal. Gisela Pletschen of SV Kirchzarten was an avid point collector. She ran the 100 meters in 15.88 seconds and jumped 3.64 meters in the long jump. Sabine Keller (Kirchzarten) scored the most points (576) for her time of 13: 49.99 minutes on 3000 meters. Rosemarie Bär (TV Eichstetten) contributed with important points in the 100 meters (16.56), in the long jump (3.42) and in the shot put (7.74). The team was completed by Brigitte Nittel of SVK (3000 meters), Iris Schillinger and Maria Ruthardt (both TB Emmendingen).
Fast Teklebrhan
In addition to Jolanda Kallabis (FT 1844 Freiburg), who set a new world record for the age group U 18 over 2000 meters (BZ reports), a cross-country runner from the region also impressed at the Trier spotlight meeting: Filmon Teklebrhan of the LAC Freiburg ran for a week before the German road racing championship for ten kilometers on the plastic track in Trier over 10,000 meters maximum. Teklebrhan asked local hero Samuel Fitwi of LG Vulkaneifel for everything and set the pace up to 7000 meters. Fitwi, ninth at the European Championships in Munich, only managed to get rid of the Freiburg man in the last two kilometers and improved his match record by 40 seconds to 28: 48.50 minutes. Teklebrhan also remained below 29 ‘(28: 59.78).
