Briefly met Bloomberg at the end of their visit to New York

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) met the former mayor of the US metropolis, Michael Bloomberg, at the end of his visit to New York yesterday afternoon (local time). During the conversation in the Bloomberg Tower in Manhattan, one of the topics was “how good economic development can be reconciled with climate protection,” Kurz told journalists in New York.

The billionaire media founder Bloomberg is currently also the UN special envoy for climate. The 79-year-old was New York City Mayor from 2002 to 2013. In the 2020 presidential election, he unsuccessfully applied for the candidacy of the opposition Democrats.

Kurz had also visited the editor-in-chief of the “Wall Street Journal” that morning. During the conversation there, there was an exchange of views, among other things, on American domestic policy and the question of how things could continue in Germany after the general election in September. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is no longer running for the election, will be received by US President Joe Biden in the White House today.
