Fans of the ‘Bridget Jones’ film series cannot believe their eyes after seeing the trailer: one of the beloved characters dies in it. Fans are sharing their grief a lot on social media.

The trailer shows that Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the husband of Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger), has died. In Helen Fielding’s fourth book, on which the film is based, Mark tragically dies abroad and it seems that that story is now returning in the upcoming film.
In the trailer, it seems that Mark has already died, leaving Bridget a widow with two children. Movie fans who haven’t yet read the book were in for a big surprise last Tuesday. On social media they get over their shock together:
After an on-again, off-again relationship for years, Bridget and Mark finally got married in the third and final film. Bridget Jones’s baby. The two seemed to have a happy ending when it turned out that Mark is the father of her baby, but nothing could be further from the truth now that Bridget has been left a widow.
The earliest Bridget JonesMovies are also based on the books from the series of the same name by Helen Fielding. The first film appeared in 2001. The last one, Bridget Jones’s babyreleased in 2016. The fourth new film will be released on February 14.
