Three members of the National Police and one TNI soldier in Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua Mountains, fell into a river because the rope of the suspension bridge they were crossing broke. The four are still being searched for after being reported washed away in the river.
The incident occurred in Sungai Digoel, Iwur District, Gunung Bintang Regency, Saturday (28/1/2023) at around 11.20 WIT.
“It’s true, three members of the National Police and one member of the TNI were washed away in the Digoel River. We are currently conducting a search,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Papuan Police, Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, as quoted by Antara. detikSulselSaturday (28/1).
The three victims were members of the Gunung Bintang Police, namely First Brigadier Yohanes Mathew, Bripda Risman Rahman, and Bripda Stevan Randongkir. While one other victim was the RI-PNG Yonif 143/TWEJ Pamwiltasrat Task Force named Pratu Ferdian.
Benny explained that initially the Dansatgas Pamwiltasrat RI-PNG Yonif 143/TWEJ wanted to make a working visit to the Yonif 143/TWEJ Task Force Post. The Gunung Bintang Police delegation also wanted to check on the Iwur Police Post.
“The group’s vehicle only reached the end of the road. Then the personnel walked over the rope bridge. While in the middle of the bridge, suddenly the rope bridge broke,” he explained.
