Mainz (ots) – After the disaster around the Schiersteiner Bridge, the sagging of the Salzbachtal Bridge in the Wiesbaden section of the A66 is now the second traffic disaster that the Rhine-Main region has to suffer within a few years. Since the northern part of the bridge has already caused problems, it is not possible to estimate whether it can be reopened or whether it will have to remain closed for years. And how the Wiesbaden terminus station can be reconnected to the network before the sagging bridge section has not been torn down, nobody knows yet either. Now the only thing that helps is endless home office for as many as possible. And the politically frustrating thing: Nobody can be held responsible for decades of failure to maintain our infrastructure. Ironically, the Rhine rail, by far the most congested transit route in Europe, is the strongest with the ailing bridges in Rhine-Ruhr (A1 near Leverkusen), Rhine-Main (Schiersteiner and Salzbachtal Bridge) and Rhine-Neckar (Adenauer Bridge Mannheim / Ludwigshafen) met. The consequence: With the whitewashing of increasing renovation budgets, we can no longer allow ourselves to be fobbed off. More money is of no use as long as the decline continues even faster. The previous small and small must finally follow programs with billions. And they will only take effect if planning and approval law is accelerated at the same time. Without the last point, by the way, all the noble goals to limit climate change will become obsolete.
