Two died and four were seriously injured after a bridge collapsed in the Greek city of Patras. The authorities are conducting a rescue operation, BNR reports.
Trained dogs are searching for people trapped by the collapse of the bridge. Two victims have been found so far. Several rescue teams are on the scene.
The authorities clarify that construction work was carried out on the bridge today. Traffic on it has been stopped due to repairs. During the collapse, entire concrete blocks from the structure fell onto the highway under the bridge, which has been closed to traffic for several days.
A group of people were under the shadow bridge at the time of the collapse. They also collected scrap metal after the repair of the facility. There is no exact information on how many people were under the bridge. Rescuers report that voices for help can be heard under the rubble.
The rescue operation is carried out with “surgical precision” so as not to cause another collapse, the participants in it explain. On social media, the people of Patras are organizing blood donations and praying that the people under the rubble are alive.
