Every day of the year is dedicated to something, whether it’s a national or global holiday. January 16 is International Croquette Day, July 21 is World Dog Day, and July 22 is World Animal Day. August 1st, Bride’s Day. This celebration was created in 2006 in the United Statesfrom there it became popular in Latin America and has now arrived in Spain. What is the origin of this day?
Actually, it is a bad translationOn August 1, 2006, Allie Savarino y Sally Rodgers created ‘National Girlfriends Day’ on their website Sisterwoman.com. They wanted to dedicate a day to the bond of friendship between girlsbetween mothers, sisters or colleagues, to give thanks for the value of these relationships and what they contribute to each other. The original idea was to send messages of thanks to friends and try to spend quality time with them.
From friends to girlfriends
However, the English word ‘girlfriends’ can mean both friends as girlfriendsWhen the holiday was translated into Spanish, it was renamed Bride’s Daydedicated to celebrating the bond you have with your girlfriend and showing her how important she is to you. Now, social media is flooded with messages from girls hoping that their partner remembers this celebration, or others asking for there to also be a “singles day.”
Whether it is Friendship Day or Girlfriend’s Day, the reason for this celebration is to value the links with others and be thankful that those people are there on their day. Why Savarino and Rodgers decided on August 1 is a mystery, it is probably a matter of a random datealthough no excuse is bad for getting together and spending time with loved ones.
