BRICS Leaders Invite Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, UAE and Saudi Arabia to Join the Group- 2023 BRICS Summit Highlights

JOHANNESBURG – BRICS leaders decided to invite Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia to join the group.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa explained this on Thursday (24/8/2023).

“We have decided to invite the Republic of Argentina, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to become full members of the BRICS. Its membership will take effect from 1 January 2024,” Ramaphosa said at the BRICS Summit in South Africa.

Leaders of the BRICS countries believe the time has come to use local currencies and alternative payment systems, according to Cyril Ramaphosa.

“There is global momentum for using local currencies, alternative financial arrangements and alternative payment systems. As BRICS, we are ready to explore opportunities to enhance the stability, reliability and fairness of the global financial architecture,” said Ramaphosa at the BRICS Summit press conference.

According to Ramaphosa, the entry of new BRICS members is the first stage of the group’s expansion process.

BRICS leaders have adopted the final declaration after the Johannesburg summit, according to Ramaphosa.

“The BRICS leaders at the 15th BRICS Summit over the past two days have had the opportunity to have discussions both in the form of closed meetings, as well as in official official meetings, and in these discussions, have reached the conclusion to adopt the Johannesburg II Declaration as a declaration that includes and includes various a matter for leaders to decide,” Ramaphosa said at the BRICS summit in South Africa.

He explained that the BRICS is concerned about world conflicts and emphasized that they support peaceful solutions, through dialogue.
