“BRICS is the Global South’s protest against the goal of establishing a unipolar world power structure with a North American axis,” Kazem Jalali told Sputnik.
The BRICS economic alliance, which initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, was expanded on January 1, 2024 with the entry of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran BRICS, in fact, opposes Western dictatorship in the world arena and supports changes in global governance.
“Iran is one of the leading countries in this approach on the world stage […]. The presence of a country like Iran in a group like BRICS contributes to the deepening of this foundation,” he said.
The BRICS alliance currently represents almost half of the world’s population, 40% of the world’s oil production and around 25% of goods exports.
Russia has been the rotating president of the organization since January 1, 2024 and has organized a summit between October 22 and 24 in the city of Kazan, with the presence of heads of state and government and high representatives of 36 countries, as well as representatives from six international organizations, including the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.
