In the college bribery scandal in the USA, actress Lori Loughlin (55) and her husband were sentenced to prison terms. A court in the US state of Massachusetts sentenced Loughlin and designer Mossimo Giannulli to two and five months in prison for fraud, as US media reported on Friday.
They also have to pay a total of $ 400,000 fine. The couple had previously accepted the sentences in a deal with the prosecutor and in return promised to plead guilty.
Loughlin and Giannulli are said to have paid $ 500,000 to a mastermind to mistakenly pass their two daughters off as rowers and place them on the sports team at USC University in California. Several wealthy parents were also charged with bribing college and university staff in the United States to place their children in prestigious colleges. The couple had initially pleaded not guilty. Loughlin is known from the sitcom “Full House”.
“Desperate Housewives” star did not fully serve the punishment
In the scandal, Felicity Huffman (“Desperate Housewives”) was sentenced to two weeks in prison in 2019. She did not fully serve the sentence.
The actress pleaded guilty to having paid a $ 15,000 bribe to allow her eldest daughter’s answers to an entrance exam to be corrected.
