“We have absolutely nothing to do with Trump’s benefit in Newport Beach today,” said Wilson and Jardine, founders of the Californian band. “We didn’t even know about it and were very surprised when we read about it in the Los Angeles Times.”

The newspaper reported Sunday morning that The Beach Boys would become the main crowd puller at Donald Trump’s campaign event. The band that was booked, however, was led by another former band member, singer Mike Love. After their last concert in 2012 – for the 50th anniversary of the band – Wilson and Jardine performed together with Beach Boys material, but under Wilson’s name. Love, who has allied himself with Trump in the past, owns the tour rights of the band.
