Uruguayan footballer Brian Rodríguez, a player for América de México, spoke about the accusation against him, saying how much it affected him and lamented that, ‘nowadays on social media, one is guilty until proven innocent.’
In late May, Rodriguez was charged with committing sexual assault against a woman in Mexico City.

The player, who denied this fact from the beginning, responded this Tuesday in 100% Sports (Radio Sport 890 of Uruguay) when asked how much it affected him in his family and professional life: “A lot, I had a very bad time with that issue. I went to the Copa America with the issue already exploited in Mexico.”.
“I was very upset because they used my image and things that were not real. I don’t know what the Mexican justice system is based on. To this day, my lawyers are already completing the matter to finalize it,” said the 24-year-old footballer.
Rodríguez stressed: “I got into a rut because on May 27 I joined the national team and the next day news like that came out. It is very ugly to live with that; even more so today seeing how things are on social media, where I believe that in the eyes of everyone one is guilty until proven otherwise.. That is very ugly, but I always relied on my family, representative and people close to me.”
“Those who know me know that I would not do such a thing.“My family had a really bad time. Behind every person, there is a family. It was a really tough situation, I was able to fix it and I am calmer today,” said the Uruguayan, who valued the support and backing he received from both his country’s national team and the América club.
His tattoo for the second championship with America
On the other hand, Rodríguez spoke about his new tattoo, which recalls the two titles he recently won with América (Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024): “I feel that the first championship I won with América was something that really touched me; I was coming off a very good sequence in football and then my knee injury came. They gave me seven weeks, and I recovered in the fifth. Coming back and lifting a trophy with a team as big as América left a mark on me and I wanted to get it tattooed.”
“Then came the second championship by winning the last tournament; the two of them came together and then I had to get a tattoo of both of them. It means a lot because of how we achieved it and how everything happened,” concluded the Uruguayan winger.
