The general manager of the New York Yankees, Brian Cashman, declared that they will evaluate everything for next season and that important changes will come in the organization, since several reports indicate that they have only a 1% chance of playing in the playoffs.
Overall, the Yankees’ season has been a disaster from every point of view, with recurring injuries, unresponsive players and poor response from reinforcements.
All of this could lead the Yankees to negative marks. Let’s review three that they could leave if they fail to react in the remainder of the season.
The Yankees have a record of 60 wins and 65 losses and have been in last place in their division for more than a month. The Bronx team has not finished a season in that position since 1990. “We are going to evaluate everything, clearly. Unfortunately, we’re going to have some time to do that,” Cashman said. “But I would say that everyone has had a bit of a hand, from top to bottom, and it’s our job to figure out where. So there are a lot of different bags that are going to be evaluated.”
The Yankees have lost ground in the AL but have played in the postseason since 2016, the year they didn’t play in the postseason. Due to the winds that are blowing, they will repeat what was done in that calendar and they will not play in October, something that in an organization like the Yankees is inadmissible. “They are all collectively trying to do the best they can to stop what is happening to us, or what is happening now for a sustained period of time,” Cashman said.
Although they ended the losing streak this Wednesday and ended up at 9, it is the first time that the New York team has gone through such a moment since 1982. If they lost that commitment that they won 9-1 over the Nationals, they would have equalized a negative mark that it hadn’t been in the franchise since 1913. The Yankees sit 10 games out of the wild card and it seems unlikely they can mend the season at this point.
