Brexit travel complications: Spanish woman barred from UK entry after Christmas visit

Since the United Kingdom approved Brexit, traveling to this country is a little more complicated than to any other country in the European Union. Since January 31, 2020, it is essential to show your passport to be able to cross the border, and the DNI or any other identification document is not valid.

But not only that, since foreigners who work in this country must also show their residence permit for work to gain access again. And this is where the problems have come for a Spanish woman who returned after spending the Christmas holidays with her family, in the province of Malaga.

As reported by 20 Minutes, citing the British newspaper The Guardian, on December 26, the woman presented all the documentation proving that she works and lives in the United Kingdom. However, border officials did not allow him to enter the country.

“I went home because my sister had a baby and four days later, at Luton airport they took me to the detention room, they took my things and my phone and told me to wait there,” says the Spaniard. But the story continues: “They left me there all night and then put me on a plane.”

The woman lived with her husband and in-laws in Bedfordshire and was refocusing her career path towards veterinary nursing. But now she can’t re-enter the UK and her dog and her car are still there.

Rejected from the settlement program

This Spaniard had already submitted an application for the settlement program in the United Kingdom, a document that European citizens who had resided there since before Brexit had to fill out. However, it was rejected for not having presented sufficient evidence.

However, he had already appealed for an administrative review and had a certificate of application which expressly indicates that he can work in the United Kingdom until the decision is final.
