Britain has also been without doctors for years.
The health system therefore depends on foreign doctors to somehow compensate for the lack of personnel. Since Brexit, however, fewer people have arrived than necessary. The British Guardian has it to calculate and comes to the conclusion that the clinics lack around 4,000 doctors from EU countries.
There is a particular need in anesthesia and cardiac surgery. As a result, fewer operations can be performed.
Entry and work rules are a deterrent
Experts see Brexit as the main reason for the growing shortage of doctors. They say many are discouraged by the new entry and work rules. They involve a lot of paperwork.
But worsening working conditions are also making Britain’s healthcare system less attractive to many from abroad. In clinics, savings are made in many areas. And because there is a general lack of staff, the workload has increased.
