Brexit Farage as Reform UK leader, withdraws from ‘active politics’

Outspoken Brexiteer Nigel Farage is stepping down as leader of the populist British party Reform UK. In a Saturday night video posted on Twitter Farage says he is quitting “active politics” but will continue to interfere in the public debate.

Farage thinks it was beautiful “after nearly thirty years” now that his “life’s work” has come to completion: the United Kingdom is out of the European Union. In the video, he cites the UK’s lead over the rest of Europe in vaccination as an example of the benefits the country is now reaping.

The 56-year-old Farage says he will continue to speak out via social media, including against “the increasing influence” of China and in favor of environmental issues such as cleaner oceans. At Reform UK, Farage will be succeeded by Richard Tice.

Farage co-founded the right-wing populist UK Independence Party (UKIP) in 1993, which he later headed. Until 2020, he was a Member of the European Parliament, where he was co-chair of the eurosceptic group Europe of Freedom and Democracy. In 2019 Farage left UKIP and became leader of Reform UK.

Nigel_Farage Nigel Farage This is why I’m standing down as leader of Reform UK. I will continue to play my part through the media, social media and new projects. My thanks go out to the many millions that helped change the course of history forever. https://t.co/F9m0sCAW57 March 6, 2021 @ 8:15 PM
