The decision of the United Kingdom (UK) to leave the European Union (EU) was one of the political decisions that most characterized international politics in recent years. Conditioned by internal and economic reasons, Brexit also had important consequences in the field of European foreign and defense policy, since it significantly changed the strategic scenario, also in a historical phase in which the issue of European defense and security quickly returned to the political debate agenda. In this article we will analyze the consequences of the British decision in relation to the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Defense and Security Policy, then focusing on one of the most delicate points for future relations between the UK and the EU, that is namely, the regulation of relations between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and, finally, analyzing the evolutionary possibilities for the EU offered by the British withdrawal.
