“Harmonies” has a title and artwork that immediately make me think of a singing bowl in my ear and incense sticks in my nose. Am I expecting a game or a therapy session? I would say both, because “Harmonies” has a relaxing effect. So lie down on the long armchair and create the most beautiful landscapes from your thoughts.

What is the game about?

“Harmonies” is a puzzle task in which game pieces of different colors must be arranged into patterns on your own game board. Certain constellations bring points and at the end the player who has managed to get the most points with their own landscape of pieces wins.

At the beginning, everyone is given a game board. This shows a grid of free spaces on which colorful game pieces can be placed. A common plan in the middle of the table shows five fields, each of which is filled with three game pieces from a bag. In addition, five animal cards are revealed, which have patterns of game pieces printed on them that can be recreated.

Whoever is next takes three stones from one of the five fields on the common board and places them on their own playing field. Then they can optionally take one of the animal cards. Animal cards show certain formations that can be recreated. As soon as this has happened, an acrylic block can be taken from the card, which frees up the corresponding points next to it. The animals get away with several at once. If all the acrylic blocks have been removed, the card is put aside. A maximum of four cards can be crafted at the same time.

In addition to the animal cards, there is also the standard scoring. Two or more yellow stones next to each other form a field that scores points. A single gray stone is worth nothing, two next to each other form a mountain. Two brown stones with a green one on top show a tree, which is worth a whopping seven points.

As soon as someone only has two free spaces left on their board, or there are no more stones in the bag, this marks the start of the final round.

The players’ boards also have a back that is shaped differently and changes the value of the blue pieces. In addition, both sides can be played with nature spirits. Each person is dealt two spirit cards at the beginning and can keep one of them. They work in a similar way to animal cards, occupying one of the spaces for animal cards, but only having one piece. If the ghost card has been solved, it usually improves one of the standard scores.
