Last week, the New York Yankees awarded a one-season contract with one option year to Brett Gardner. The 37-year-old will therefore be in his 14th season in the New York uniform.
The outfielder thinks this contract may be his last with the Yankees.
Let’s not take things one year at a time, but one day at a time.
Brett Gardner
Gardner currently has an option for 2022 worth $ 2.3 million. If the veteran is having a great season, he could turn down that option and the Yankees can offer him a $ 7.15 million contract or release him for 1.15 million.
We’ve been talking about it for two, three years. I will be 38 in August. There is no guarantee. You never know what to expect and what to expect.
Brett Gardner
Obviously at this age his body isn’t the same as when he was 20, but if he’s having a good season, this contract may not mean his last on the Manfred Tour.
He continued his interview by saying that it was a frustrating situation the duration of negotiations between him and the Yankees this winter, but that in the end, he does not blame them. He is also not embarrassed to demonstrate the interest of ending his career with the team that drafted it in 2005.
The key to success is for him to have fun when his manager Aaron Boone asks for his services.
I’m going to soak up it all and enjoy it. If it’s the end, then it’s the end. I’m focusing on the present and how we’re going to navigate this long season with all of these protocols in place. I’m glad to be here.
Brett Gardner
An excellent defensive player who is still running well, Gardner could be a big help this season for the Yankees, who will try to smash everything this season.
