Brets has launched a surprising competition on X to decide his next flavor of chips. An idea that the brand of chips will ultimately regret when Internet users offer them rather special tastes.
Rather taco chips or lasagna? The Breton brand of crisps Brets is known for its wide variety of crisp flavors. An originality that has no limits since we recently saw pastis-flavored chips appear on the shelves.
Then Brets had the idea of asking X users to decide on the next flavor that would hit the shelves in a limited edition. Thursday, October 24, the chip manufacturer’s account is launching its online competition to elect its next star chip without knowing which taste will come out on top.
It was to be expected, the proposals from Internet users flooded in, everyone hoping to see their dream taste of chips become reality. But one flavor in particular has won the hearts of potato lovers, “gasoline chips”. The unleaded crisp then went viral and rose to the rank of the most popular flavor in the competition.
Faced with the scale of the phenomenon, Brets finally decided to backtrack and withdrew his competition “as quickly as a handful of chips”. In a press release published on Monday October 28, the brand explains that the announcement of this competition was somewhat rushed, ironically using the excuse of the “intern” who published the ad by mistake.
An annoying braking
This cancellation greatly displeased the participants of the competition even if it seems quite unlikely that the gasoline chip will triumph. Above all, the “intern” excuse goes down quite badly among Internet users.
“The intern’s excuse, in 2024, seriously? And your explanation is completely false in addition. The post remained online for many hours, allowing several responses to garner several thousand likes” criticizes one of between them.
The Brets team nevertheless congratulates the “incredible creativity” of Internet users and specifies in its press release that “all the most realistic suggestions” will be noted. But to the great dismay of supporters of unleaded chips, it is very likely that we will never be able to taste a chip with such a taste. Surely for the better.
Contacted by Tech&Co, the brand has not yet responded.
