Born in 1970 in Prophetstown, Illinois, Bret Bielema stayed for college in the Midwest and played in Iowa from 1989 to 1992. He made a brief stint with the Milwaukee Mustangs in 1994 before starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Hawkeyes. Bielema was promoted to linebacker coach in Iowa until 2001, before taking on the job of co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State from 2002 to 2003. In 2004, Bielema was hired as Defensive Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin and one season later was promoted to Head Coach of the Badgers, a title he held from 2006 to 2012 when he took a job as Head Coach of the University of Arkansas. Bielema has a 77-38 head coaching record in the middle of the 2014 season and is 2-4 in bowl games of all time. Bielema has three Big Ten championships (2010, 2011, 2012) and two Big Ten Leader Division titles (2011, 2012). To date, he has lost every Rose Bowl game he’s coached.
