Brescia secures spot in play outs with comeback draw in Palermo

The relegation nightmare, at least for the moment, has been thwarted. Brescia equalized in comeback in Palermo (2-2) and detaches the ticket for the play outs, rendering Perugia’s success against Benevento (3-2) in vain. The swallows close the regular season in sixteenth placelevel on points with Cosenza, who by virtue of the disadvantage in the direct clashes will contend with the biancazzurri for the last salvation slot having to play the second leg away.

Limp away

Brescia’s start is the plastic materialization of the worst of nightmares: too soft an approach, legs that tremble and a head that struggles to connect. To all this must be added a certain amount of bad luck, because in Palermo it takes just 4′ to unlock it: the signing is as usual Matteo Brunori, who pierces the fleeting balance – and Andrenacci’s goal – with an elusive right-footed shot for the white and blue goalkeeper. The only feeble jolts take shape between the 21st and 23rd minutes, first with a suspicious touch by Nedelcearu in the rosanero area not punished by Maresca, and then with a right-footed turn by Ayé that gets lost not by much. Palermo holds up the impact without any crunchand inflates the tally in the 41st minute: break on the left-handed sector by the unleashed Brunori and laser-ball towards the center of the area for Tutino, who clearly anticipates Mangraviti and finds the winning deflection, for the 2-0 with which the curtain falls on the first fraction.

Facing tipping

Almost for a sort of compensation principle, the recovery of Brescia at times takes on the connotations of domination. The first sign comes from the goal canceled by Ayé in the 49th minute: the Frenchman deposits the tap-in on an assist from Karacic, who is however offside with the toe of his shoe. Shortly thereafter, however, Gastaldello’s team managed to reopen it: it was in the 54th minute when Rodriguez completed a textbook counter-attack orchestrated by Björkengren. Scavetto soft to defuse the exit of Pigliacelli and Brescia which, on the emotional wave of this episode, even finds an equal. The signing this time is from Ayé, who signs the 2-2 with an impeccable third movement, on an arched cross painted from the left by Huard. The finale is punctuated by «controlled» suffering: the stakes are very high and cannot calm the level of tension, but the Palermo no longer has the strength to sink the blow as in the first 45 ‘and Brescia understandably satisfied with the draw. At the triple whistle, all the joy of the blue-and-whites explodes, who will play for their stay in B in the double confrontation with Cosenza.
