Man City dominated possession but were frustrated by a tricky Brentford defence. Brentford counterattacked which troubled Man City when Ben Mee’s shot was blocked by Ederson.
Brentford has again troubled Man City. In the 40th minute, a throw-in was met by Ethan Pinnock with a flick at the near post and Vitaly Janelt’s shot from the edge of the box was blocked. The ball returns to Janelt’s path but shoots over.
Ahead of halftime, Man City pounded on the Brentford defense. Kyle Walker’s collaboration with Riyad Mahrez was continued by Sergio Gomez with a first-time shot but it was still wide. After that Julian Alvarez’s header was off the mark.
0-0 score lasted until halftime.
Man City pressed Brentford. Phil Foden’s collaboration with Cole Palmer was thwarted by David Raya. Brentford responded by creating chaos in front of Man City’s goal.
After surviving the onslaught of Man City attacks, Brentford managed to break the deadlock. Ethan Pinnock scored to make it 1-0 in the 85th minute.
A cross from the right wing was forwarded by Bryan Mbuemo with a header. The ball headed for Pinnock in the middle of the penalty box, then finished with a hard shot.
