Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been banned for 8 months by the FA after admitting multiple breaches of sports betting regulations. The 27-year-old will also have to pay a fine of 50,000 pounds (57,000 francs).
Ivan Toney has admitted to having violated on 232 occasions between February 2017 and January 2021 the rule which prohibits any player from betting on football matches or even simply from transmitting to others information which would not be public for sports betting.
The sanction was decided by an independent commission after the player was heard. The English international, who has 9 minutes of play with the ‘Three Lions’ during the last meeting of the qualifiers for the next Euro, will be able to resume training with his club halfway through his suspension, i.e. mid-September.
