Brendan Rodgers compared to David Brent after “the team spoke in Spanish”

Former Reading defender Matt Mills has compared Leicester City chairman Brendan Rodgers to British comic character David Brent from The Office.

Rodgers is often regarded as one of the best managers in the Premier League, and has also been linked with a job at Manchester United.

However, Mills believes the former Liverpool and Celtic boss may be more like Ricky Gervais’ lovable character, as he is opposed to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The now-retired centre-back played under Rodgers during the doomed Northern Irishman’s tenure at Reading, which saw him sacked just six months later in 2009.

Mills drew comparisons to Brent after Rodgers decided to give one of his presentations in Spanish, according to reports. Mirror.

“To be fair, he was a great coach. Mills said UndrTheCosh audio notation.

“We had a meeting with the team once and he started speaking Spanish.

«There was not a single Spaniard in the room and we said ‘What is happening here? «.

“He was like David Brent outside the office, he was a weird guy.”

Mills signed from Doncaster Rovers in what turned out to be Rodgers’ only transfer window at the helm of Madejski Stadium.

But he only made eight of his 21 potential games with Rodgers, even though he was bought in the summer.

Mills added the Leicester chairman, calling him “Jobs****”.

“Brendan Rodgers stretched me the best streak in history, and I was like ‘This guy is unreal'”. Mills added.

“It was just Gibbs ****. Talking about the best game ever.”

“But I have to say he is a great manager but the way he wanted to play was not suitable for the players we have at Reading.”

Despite his doomed reign in the Championship squad, Rodgers managed to salvage and cement his reputation with a highly impressive season as head coach of Swansea City.

He went on to guide the Welsh giants to the Premier League for the first time in their history, while playing a charismatic style of football.

The Pelicans’ performances quickly attracted the interest of Liverpool, who secured their services at the start of the 2012–13 season.

He came close to winning his first Premier League title with Liverpool in 2014, but was sacked the following season after a sharp decline in form.

But he regained his reputation as a manager at Scottish giants Celtic when he won the Scottish Premier League title, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups before Leicester convinced him to return to the Premier League.

While the Foxes fell short of Champions League qualification last season, they conjured up a classic trophy with a 1-0 win over Chelsea in last season’s FA Cup final.

Their victory over the reigning European champions marked the first time Leicester had won the FA Cup in football history.
