After he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in the movie “The Whale,” many months passed without American actor Brandon Fraser finding a role that would convince him to stand in front of the camera again.

Informed sources told the magazine “Deadline“Fraser has contracted with the Japanese production company, Search Light, to play the lead role in the movie “Rental Family,” and “Bev” director Helmer Hikari will direct the movie.

The sources revealed that Hikari has been working on bringing the film to light since 2019, and co-wrote it with author Stephen Blahut, but the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the world entering a phase of lockdown, and recently the Hollywood strike postponed the project.
Production of the film is scheduled to begin early next spring in Japan.

the story of the movie

The film follows a struggling actor living in Tokyo who is hired to replace an American man at a Japanese family rental company, which leads him on an unexpected personal journey of self-discovery through the roles he plays in the lives of others.
The rental family service began to spread in Japan since the early 1990s, and has become very widespread, as it provides customers with representatives who live the lives of friends or family members, and share special social and family occasions such as weddings.

Success after stagnation

After many years of stagnation, and third-rate works that did not witness much success, in 2023, Fraser achieved a major professional revival, which began with his starring in the film The Whale by director Darren Aronofsky, which critics rated an award-winning film.
Even during the waiting period, and despite the strike, Fraser did not miss the masterpiece films, with the start last month of the first showings of the film “Killers of the Moonflower”, directed by Martin Scorsese, in which he plays a small but influential role, which qualified him for preliminary nominations for international awards.
