Brenda Fruhvirtová: Rising Tennis Star with an Impressive Winning Streak

Brenda Fruhvirtová played in 54 matches this year, leaving the court as a loser in only eight of them. Statistically speaking, this means that she won over 82% of the duels she entered. The last time she fell was in August in the qualification for the US Open, since then she has not found a defeater on the ITF circuit in Oldenzaal in the Netherlands or at the subsequent event in Italy.

She saw off her opponents with ease even at the ongoing tournament in Heraklion, Greece, where she advanced to the quarterfinals for the time being. She lost only three sets in 22 winning duels! The tennis player, who is in her first year at a business academy and is accompanied to world tournaments by her mother, while her older sister runs businesses with her father, despite her age, shows her skills mainly at the lower ITF businesses, but her ambitions are maximum.

This year, she has already made it to the main stage of Grand Slam tournaments twice. At the Australian Open, she finished in the first round on the racket of the seasoned Belarusian Sasnovičová, then at Wimbledon she fell after a brave performance against Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakinová. “I went into it without any pressure. I had nothing to lose and just went to enjoy it. I take it as an incredible experience and evaluate it very positively, said Fruhvirtová after the defeat.

In addition to the aforementioned Sasnovičová and Rybakinová, among the eight conquerors who matured into a Czech gem this year were, for example, US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez and seasoned veteran Kaia Kanepiová. “It’s great to know that such big players are not invincible. When you stand on the court, you realize that you have a chance and that it really is possible,” Brenda Fruhvirtová knows.

The only higher-ranked tennis player who has not yet reached the age of eighteen is Mirra Andrejevová of Russia, who is 27 days younger than her, and has already broken into the world’s top 50. Like Brenda, she also has a three-year older sister Erika on the circuit, who is nine places better than Brenda Fruhvirtová.

The near future will show whether the duels between the sister pairs of Linda and Brenda Fruhvirtov and the Russians Mirra and Erika Andrejeva will become the future blockbuster of tennis battles.

Brenda Fruhvirtová will want to add another, the twenty-third winning streak in a row, on Friday, when she will face Romanian Irina Baraová, who is twelve years older than her, in the battle for the semifinals of the tournament in Heraklion.
