An eleven-year-old and his grandmother from Oberallgäu have now turned to Lürssen with a letter – with a request to save the insolvent Strandlust. “It hit us like a blow that the beach love closes. As long as I can remember, we spent our vacation in the beach, ”writes the student from Bavaria. In the meantime, according to information from our newspaper, initial talks with the Strandlust owners have taken place at the highest administrative level in Bremen.

As reported, the traditional hotel on the Weser promenade ceased operations in September. The previous operator Philipp Thiekötter and insolvency administrator Christian Kaufmann stated that there was no longer any economic perspective for the house. Due to the Corona crisis, the business with family celebrations and major events collapsed. 55 employees lost their jobs.

In the meantime, tenant Philipp Thiekötter has returned the property to the lessor AB Inbev. This in turn gave the property back to the owners. “According to my information, however, the handover has not yet been formally completed,” reports insolvency administrator Christian Kaufmann.

Lawsuits against the termination

Some of the employees of Strandlust can apparently still not imagine that the large house on the banks of the Weser has finally closed its doors. Insolvency administrator Christian Kaufmann: “A handful of employees have filed a dismissal protection suit, each with the argument that they do not believe that they cannot go on with their beach lust. That is of course – unfortunately – incorrect. ”The lawyer had given the 55 employees an operational dismissal because the business was finally closed. In the meantime he has mainly sold the inventory to private individuals.

The bankruptcy caused consternation and dismay not only in Vegesack. “Since we have known our grandma, she has been telling us about her great balls, about the performance of great artists in the Friends of Strandlust,” writes Valery Kohler to the owners of the Lürssen shipyard. The family has often spent their holidays enjoying the beach. “The arrival was warm at any time of the day. The rooms were very tasteful and you felt right at home. In the morning there were always fresh cookies in the room. Having breakfast outside was the highlight. ”It was great to look at the big pots on the Weser.

The young ski racer from the Oberstdorf ski club reports on day trips to the North Sea and boat trips to Heligoland. “The crab rolls and the Finkenwerder plaice were only so tasty when you were on the beach. And it’s all over now. But be honest: Vegesack, Bremen-Nord and all of us are missing a hotel like Strandlust. “In his letter, Valery asks the company to intervene:” Please ensure that such a hotel is reopened, and not just any apartments. “

His father Kai Uwe D. Kohler explains why the boy turned to the owner of the shipyard of all people: “My son Valery is of the opinion that Mr. Lürßen has a direct interest in the development of his immediate surroundings, and also in the corresponding opportunities At Lürssen they are touched by the boy’s commitment: “Of course we would also like the Strandlust operation to continue, as we have held many events and celebrations there and many of our customers have lived there. But we as a shipyard have no experience in operating hotels and restaurants. “

Love for the city of Bremen

How things will continue on the maritime mile is still uncertain four months after the closure. “I can’t comment on that at the moment. Corona makes everything take longer. But nobody wants vacancies ”, assures Strandlust co-owner Bärbel Körzdörfer on request. “The love of the beach was always an affair of the heart of our father Karl Könecke. We children of Karl Könecke will act in his interest and his love for the city of Bremen. We are looking for a good solution for everyone in Bremen.”

Bärbel Körzdörfer reports that the family has invested a lot in loving the beach in recent years. “A completely new block-type thermal power station was installed recently and the facade was renovated.” In this respect, further use is desirable. “We are looking for a good solution for the location. We know about the peculiarity and historical tradition of this wonderful location. In 1915, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin was a guest at Strandlust, from whom the quote comes: ‘You just have to want, believe in it, then it will succeed!’ In this sense we will act. “

The administration is also looking for solutions. Building Senator Maike Schaefer confirms: “We are holding intensive discussions with the owners, in which I am personally involved. It would be nice if we could provide a place for festivities again and, ideally, a beer garden. The old trees must also be preserved. For everything else, the discussions are conducted in a constructive atmosphere. What we won’t allow at this point is a high-rise. “

The processing of the insolvency will take some time. At present, the lawyer Christian Kaufmann is primarily concerned with an insurance company for the previous tenant. Thiekötter, who himself could not be reached to comment, had therefore taken out business interruption insurance in the event that operations could not continue. According to Kaufmann, the damage that the insurance covers in his opinion amounts to a noteworthy six-figure amount: “Like almost all insurance companies – the insurance company took the position that the insurance would not apply to Corona and a goodwill offer of 15 percent of the damage that had occurred, which we thankfully refused, ”said Kaufmann. There are already different judgments across Germany. Among other things, the Munich district court awarded the Pschorr innkeeper around one million euros.
