Incredible start to the new year

The Wolves won the start of the year against SC Freiburg 6-0 in front of their home crowd. After the lightning lead by Patrick Wimmer (1st), Jonas Wind made things clear with his brace before the break. With the self-confidence in the back, the next lightning start was achieved during the week in Berlin. The lead was delayed until the 4th minute, at the break it was 3:0 again. In the end, five different players scored in Svanberg, Arnold, Wind, Baku and Marmoush.

VfL makes the fight for international business even more exciting than it already was. For the seventh-placed Wolves with 29 points, Union (33), Leipzig (32), Frankfurt, Dortmund and Freiburg (31 each) are now all within easy reach. The Werkself from Leverkusen (24) could also get involved at the top again with a winning streak. Whether Wolfsburg can secure a place in the top 4 will depend on how long they can keep their six-game winning streak alive. The 7-1 debacle in Cologne had consequences for Ole Werner’s starting eleven. With Veljkovic and Groß, two defensive players rotated to the bench, Pieper and Schmidt were allowed to play from the start, which put Gruev on the sixth. Although Pieper scored to make it 1-0, he couldn’t really convince in his actual core competence. The race is open between him and Veljkovic. Otherwise, Jens Stage and Lee Buchanan are other options.
