The cars were rented, the drivers very young: the police in Bremen disturbed speeders who had met for car races.
In Bremen, the police prevented an illegal street race with rented, high-powered luxury sports cars. According to officials, six cars from manufacturers such as Lamborghini, Porsche and Ferrari were stopped early Monday morning around 4:50 a.m. in the Überseestadt district. When the emergency services arrived, a 19-year-old in a Porsche and a 22-year-old in a Lamborghini were engaged in a race involving risky overtaking maneuvers at high speed.
Local residents had complained about loud engine noise and rapid driving maneuvers, a witness reported that several cars had positioned themselves for a race. A total of eleven alleged participants were found by the police. A 20-year-old man who filmed the race from the side of the road was arrested because he had an open warrant for his arrest. His mobile phone with the video recordings was confiscated. All of the cars were identified as rental cars, according to investigators. An investigation into a prohibited motor vehicle race was initiated.
Bystander woman injured in Sunday’s race
Already on Saturday there was another car race with high-powered and expensive cars in Bremen at around 5.45 p.m., in which an uninvolved driver was slightly injured. According to the police, a 59-year-old dueled in a red Ferrari and an unknown driver of a jeep in the Hemelingen district at very high speed.
The Ferrari driver lost control of his vehicle in a curve and ended up on a lawn, where he collided with the car of a 56-year-old. The woman suffered minor injuries and required hospital treatment. The uninjured Ferrari driver’s license was confiscated, while the driver of the Jeep fled undetected. In this case, too, a prohibited car race is being investigated.
