Road construction for the new Hulsberg district will begin today on the former site of the Bremen-Mitte Clinic. Everything should be ready in 2029.
Construction Senator Özlem Ünsal (SPD) will start the construction phase with an official groundbreaking ceremony in the afternoon. More than 1,000 apartments are expected to be built on the site by 2029. Road construction for the new Hulsberg area will take place in two phases. First, four of the six new streets will be built, as well as the sewage system and preparatory work for, among other things, electricity and water connections for the future neighborhoods.
Development of the new area
Some buildings with private investors have already been built and people are living there. They are located on the edge of the area and could easily be connected to existing supply lines for electricity and water, for example. The infrastructure must be prepared first for all other buildings and routes.
The area for the new Hulsberg Quarter was previously used by the Bremen-Mitte Clinic. In 2019, Bremen’s largest hospital moved to a new building next door. The parking lot at Clinic Bremen-Mitte will remain open during construction until the new parking garage is ready.
