Bremen family doctors’ association criticizes the distribution of corona vaccines

  • It does not make sense to fill the gap with AstraZeneca

The Bremen General Practitioner Association also criticizes the fact that the practices do not get enough Biontech vaccine from the federal government. In the opinion of the association, it also makes no sense to replenish these missing Biontech cans with AstraZeneca. The German Association of General Practitioners had made a similar statement.

General practitioners demand planning security

The Bremen General Practitioner Association sees several problems with the federal vaccine deliveries: On the one hand, the doctors do not know exactly how much can actually be delivered. In addition: In the coming week, half of the practices are to be supplied with AstraZeneca and half of the Biontech vaccination doses.

The Bremen general practitioner boss Mühlenfeld thinks it makes more sense if the general practitioners can order as needed and then receive secure supplies. “That means, if I have patients who want Astra, that I also get enough Astra, but it makes no sense to force-deliver the practices with Astra vaccine, so to speak. That does not make sense and leads to a further shortage of the vaccine. “

AstraZeneca for paediatricians?

According to Mühlenfeld, even pediatricians currently receive half of the AstraZeneca delivery. There it is then stacked in the refrigerators. Pediatricians cannot impose it on their patients. The Vaccination Commission recommends AstraZeneca only for people aged 60 and over.

The Federal Ministry of Health has rejected criticism from the statutory health insurance physicians that less vaccine arrives at the general practitioner’s offices than agreed. According to a delivery overview from April 12th, which is available in different colors, around one million cans of Biontech were planned for each of the practices in calendar weeks 14 and 15 across Germany. In week 16 there should be 460,000 Biontech cans and another 550,000 from AstraZeneca. In week 17, however, the amount of Biontech for general practitioners will again be a good 1.1 million cans of Biontech and 340,000 cans of AstraZeneca.

The Bremen health department emphasizes that it is now important to ensure the upcoming second vaccinations in the vaccination centers – also for those who have received a first vaccination with AstraZeneca. The Biontech vaccination doses are needed for this. In addition, there is also a high need for advice among people over 60, for whom AstraZeneca is suitable. “And the general practitioners have emphasized that they know their patients well and can advise them intensively,” said Fuhrmann.
