2. League
Düsseldorf (dpa) – SV Werder Bremen is getting better and better in the 2nd Bundesliga and is temporarily already in third place in the table.
With 3-0 (2-0) at FC Ingolstadt, coach Markus Anfang’s team celebrated their second win in a row on the sixth match day. The Bundesliga relegated benefited from the results of the competition. Northern rivals Holstein Kiel fought 2: 2 (0: 1) in a thrilling final phase at Karlsruher SC, their competitor from Bremen with the same number of points. FC St. Pauli surprisingly suffered their second defeat of the season with 0: 1 (0: 1) at Hannover 96 and missed the possible jump to the top.
An own goal by FCI defender Nico Antonitsch (24th minute) as well as Mitchell Weiser’s goal (42nd) on his debut in the Werder jersey and a header from Marvin Ducksch (49th) ensured clear conditions. The urge phase of the hosts with chances through Filip Bilbija (67th) and Nassim Boujellab (82nd) came too late and had no consequences. Ingolstadt slipped to 17th place with just four points from six games. “That was a good performance, even if we allowed a few chances in the end,” said Werder coach Anfang.
Turbulent final phase
The encounter between Karlsruhe and Kiel ended with more goals. Kyoung-Rok Choi (39th) had put KSC in the lead, then not much happened for a long time. It only got turbulent in the final phase: Joshua Mees (78th) marked the equalizer, only two minutes later Fin Bartels scored for the Kiel lead – but Philipp Hofmann set the final point with the goal to make it 2-2 (88th).
FC St. Pauli was not celebrated with a goal on Saturday: The Hanseatic League surprisingly had to admit defeat at Hanover. Sebastian Kerk scored the winning goal in the 39th minute for the highly committed and at least clearly better 96ers in the first half.
