Bremen – BVB: Drastic change! Fans have to adapt completely

Away trips are always something special for fans. It’s a different city, a different stadium. When Borussia Dortmund fans have always travelled to Werder Bremen, the away section was in the upper tier of the Weserstadion. But from this season onwards, everything is new.

During BVB’s away game in Bremen, the away fans will be standing and sitting somewhere else. This is the result of an incident from last season.

Werder Bremen – BVB: Drastic change in the Weserstadion

What happened? At the start of the 2023/24 season, the seating area for home fans in Bremen had to be cleared after the Munich away fans in the block above set off pyrotechnics. Werder Bremen wanted to avoid such incidents and therefore took a drastic measure that BVB fans will now notice directly at the first away game.

The guest curve will now be moved to the south-west area. “In the new guest block we have the standing area in the lower tier and the seating area in the upper tier,” said Werder Bremen in a statement.

“With the renovation, we are achieving the greatest possible safety in order to make the stadium experience as optimal as possible for all visitors. This also includes optimizing the access situation,” says Bremen’s Managing Director for Organization & Personnel Tarek Brauer.

Dortmund fans have to adapt

What else does this mean for BVB fans at the game in Bremen? The entrance is one gate away and is covered. Werder hopes that the situation between the home fans and the away fans will ease. Everyone is hoping for a peaceful outcome on Saturday (31 August, 3:30 p.m.).
