TTBL: Bremen and Fulda were involved

November 17, 2024 – In the highlight match of the 7th day of the Bundesliga Table Tennis (TTBL), SV Werder Bremen sent a clear signal and surprisingly beat TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen 3-0 away. While the hosts went into the match as favourites, Bremen impressed with the performance of a united team and thus gained important points in the race for the playoff places. In the second match on Sunday, Dimitrij Ovtcharov led Fulda to victory against Bad Homburg, newly promoted and Final Four participants.

Already in the first person, Andrei Putuntica showed that SV Werder Bremer would not be easy prey for TTF Ochsenhausen on the seventh day of the Bundesliga Table Tennis (TTBL). The top Moldovan player first started nervously against Ochsenhausen’s Shunsuke Togami and had to lose the first set just 12:14. But Putuntica quickly found his game. It made Togami again make mistakes. He won the next three sets confidently and gave Bremen a 1-0 lead.

In the second singles, Ochsenhausen’s young hopeful Tiago Abiodun met experienced Mattias Falck. The Swedish runner-up from 2019 dominated from the start and gave the young Portuguese no chance.

Kirill Gerassimenko gets the third point against Simon Gauzy

The hopes of the hosts now rested on Simon Gauzy, who was supposed to start the revolution against Kirill Gerasimenko. But the top French player found no cure against the man from Bremen. In a high-level match, Gerassimenko showed strong nerves and won the second set in overtime with 16:14. The Kazakh stayed better in the remaining rounds and in the end it was the head. With this third victory he sealed the victory 3-0 for the guests.

This loss represents a major setback for Ochsenhausen. After four wins in a row, the team showed an unusually weak performance, especially in the crucial moments. The mood at SV Werder Bremen was different: after two defeats in a row, the Hanseatic team came back well.

Ovtcharov leads Fulda to victory against Bad Homburg

With Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Kao Cheng-Jui and Ruwen Filus in the line-up, Fulda went into Sunday’s second leg as favorites in the duel against the newly promoted side and surprised the Cup Final participant four from Bad Homburg.

After Kao won the first singles of the day against Kristian Karlsson 3-0, Ovtcharov, who was still undefeated, came to the table for the guests. In his first singles match, the German national player faced Yuma Tsuboi, who has already shown what he can do this season with a win against Feng Yi-Hsin and a narrow defeat against Eduard Ionescu and Steffen Mengel. But that evening the Japanese failed to win a set and Ovtcharov extended Fulda’s lead to 2-0.

Andras Csaba gets the only point for Bad Homburg

The Fulda native also won his second single. In the duel between the two top players, Ovtcharov had to chase a 2-1 deficit. But he managed to turn this around and it came true with a victory against Karlsson in the fifth set. He now has an impressive 11-0 record in the TTBL.

Andras Csaba was able to get the only point for the guests that evening. The young Hungarian had to face German veteran and defender Ruwen Filus and started the game strongly. But Filus kept sets three and four so it came to the deciding set. For Csaba it was the fifth singles match that had to be decided in the fifth set. In the end he got the upper hand and almost won 11:9.

Ruwen Filus concluded after the match: “Overall, I was too uncertain with my balls today. In the third and fourth sets I was able to put that piece off and play more actively and show more what I can do. But in the last set, after I took the lead, I made three simple defensive errors out of nowhere, which is too much if you want to win here against a strong Csaba. So congratulations to him for playing it down so confidently, but I also have to look at myself.”
