The Swiss national soccer player and former Bundesliga professional Breel Embolo has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and will be absent from his club AS Monaco until the new year.
The Monegasque announced the bitter news on Monday. If the healing process goes well, Embolo should be fit again by the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
The 26-year-old striker moved to Monaco from Borussia Mönchengladbach last year and had a strong season with twelve league goals.
In his Bundesliga years at Schalke 04 (2016 to 2019) and in Gladbach (2019 to 2022), Embolo was repeatedly thrown back by serious injuries and only played 136 league games in six seasons.
In view of the renewed failure of the attacker, coach Adi Hütter’s team could become active again on the transfer market.
