Breathtaking Start to the 2023 Mandalika MotoGP Series: Aleix Espargaro Takes the Lead in Practice Session

Jakarta

A perfect opening day for Aprilia in the 2023 Mandalika MotoGP series. Aleix Espargaro was the fastest in the practice session, followed by Maverick Vinales in second place, and the top three were closed by Marco Bezzecchi.

MotoGP racers undergo a session practice at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Friday (13/10/2023) at 14.00-15.20 WIB. Apart from setting a new speed record, the training session was also marred by incidents crash.

Brad Binder and Augusto Fernandez collided until they both left the track. 39 minutes after the practice session was started, KTM rider Jack Miller crashed at corner 11.

Francesco Bagnaia doesn’t seem to have found the right suit. The Ducati Lenovo rider went wide several times until he couldn’t record a best time attack.

Interestingly, Marco Bezzecchi showed a neat appearance. Valentino Rossi’s students are like ‘Iron Man’. Even though his physique is still battered after collarbone surgery five days ago, plus he experienced a crash in free practice (FP) one, Bezzecchi recorded a time of 1 minute 30.644 seconds.

He took the lead and became the fastest rider with 10 minutes remaining. Bezzecchi’s unyielding action earned him the nickname ‘Iron Man’.

What’s more interesting is that Bezzecchi’s time beat the record held by Quartararo last year. At that time El Diablo was able to reach 1 minute 31.067 seconds.

However, Bezzecchi’s lead did not last long, the Aprilia rider duo managed to sharpen the time again. Aleix Espargaro broke through at 1 minute 30.474 seconds, and Maverick Vinales was right behind him with a difference of 0.154 seconds.

The top 10 positions are respectively occupied by Brad Binder, Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez, Miguel Oliveira, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo.
