MPPS Press.- From August 1 to 7, World Breastfeeding Week was commemorated, with the purpose of promoting this practice and providing support to mothers so that they can breastfeed consistently and safely, doctors Yessika Quiñones, regional coordinator of the Child and Adolescent program of the Regional Health Directorate-Guárico and Naicary Leota, Breastfeeding coordinator of the Comprehensive Community Social Area “Che Guevara”, of the Juan Germán Roscio Municipality, stated that breastfeeding provides babies with the necessary nutrients for optimal growth, reduces malnutrition, as well as the risk of prevalent diseases in childhood and they grow much happier, safer and more emotionally stable.
This was stated during their participation in the program “La Salud Primero”, broadcast by the radio stations Canta Guárico 91.3 FM and Oyes 89.7 FM, where they added that breastfeeding has important benefits for the baby, the mother, the family and society in general. Among these they mentioned: it has the necessary nutrients for optimal growth, it reduces the risk of malnutrition, as well as the risk of prevalent diseases in childhood such as: diarrhea, asthma, pneumonia, allergies, among others; it creates an emotional bond with the mother thanks to which breastfed boys and girls grow much happier, safer and more emotionally stable.
For the mother, breastfeeding helps in a quick recovery after childbirth, prevents postpartum depression and in the long term also prevents osteoporosis, breast and ovarian cancer, decreasing the risk of bleeding after childbirth. Breastfeeding allows the baby to be fed at any time since it is always available and within everyone’s reach; it does not have to be purchased, nor does it need to be prepared or stored; it promotes family savings, said the medical professionals.
They added that, with the greater dissemination of the importance of breastfeeding, some existing myths about this practice have been dispelled, hence the importance of continuing to carry out the different educational talks that are held in the different health centers located in the state of Guárico, led by health professionals, who are highly sensitized on this issue.
The doctors acknowledged that the National Public Health System (SPNS) constantly maintains various activities aimed at promoting and strengthening this practice in the population.
