Women who are undergoing treatment after breast cancer has been diagnosed can have a child without major risks. This is shown by a study with 500 patients in which UZ Leuven participated. Some cancerous tumors are sensitive to female hormones, which is why radiation therapy is followed by an anti-hormone therapy after the operation, but this lasts five to ten years and in young women this greatly reduced the chance of having children. Until now, because temporarily stopping the hormone treatment to bring a child into the world has virtually no effect on the mother and the child.
