Juarez City.- Living through chemotherapies not only helped Isela Pérez defeat breast cancer, it also allowed her to show solidarity with other patients who are in the process, through a blog and through the “Tissue with a Cause” campaign.
“Con C de Calma” is the name of the blog in which the Juarense woman shares information about her process, from the diagnosis of breast cancer, treatment and recovery of health, through the link www.thepinkseason.blogspot.com .
Part of this process took her 16 times to chemotherapy rooms, where she shared with her colleagues not only the ravages of the drug and the hope of defeating cancer, but also the cold felt in those spaces, so the year Last year, the “Tissue with a Cause” campaign began, through which he was able to donate more than 200 scarves and hats to other cancer patients.
“It is not really something essential to have a scarf or a hat, it is more like a symbolic accompaniment to the patients, because the chemo rooms are very cold, and the medicines cool your arm, sometimes you have to put them like warm cushions the patients so that the medicine can flow, and aside from that, the rooms, as in hospitals in general, are cold,” he explained.
“Since I had to go through my entire process in winter, because I had no hair and neither did many of my colleagues, so that was the idea, to give them a garment that made us feel warm, but also symbolically, that their community is supporting them. , that there are other people who have gone through the same thing and there is our presence. Because it is a very hard process, and in reality you go through it alone, even if your family supports you, ”she shared.
Last year Isela managed to gather seven weavers and a lot of yarn to create more than 200 garments, which were delivered at an event held at the Granjas de Chapultepec community center for ISSSTE patients, but she also donated to Apanical, the Children’s Hospital and the Radiotherapy Center, but this year it also seeks to reach patients of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
In March of this year, the 37-year-old from Juarez managed to beat cancer, so through her blog she seeks to support other women with information and her own experience. She and she also hopes to increase support to knit more scarves and hats, so she needs the help of the community to gather yarn and knitters.
The idea is for the volunteers to weave during the summer and fall to provide support in the winter to those who fight against the disease, explained the mother of three children, ages 13, 9 and 6.
She currently teaches weaving classes to a group of older adults at the Granjas de Chapultepec community center, who also weave for a cause, but they no longer have yarn, so they need the support of the community.
Through the “Tejido con Causa” campaign, you can support with new or unused yarn, looms, frames and hooks. Or, if you prefer, you can donate knitted scarves or hats at your home or at the community center itself.
