The talk took place in the Obligated Room of the Government House, with a large attendance. In this way, the “Pink October” agenda continues, in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The objective is to replicate it in different areas.
The government carried out, this Monday, through the ministries of Health and Security, training on the prevention of breast cancer, as part of the Pink October agenda. The talk took place in the Obligado room of Government House with the presence of students and agents from the Police School and the Provincial Penitentiary Service.
Present at the opening were the Undersecretary of Health Marcelo Ojeda, the Undersecretary of Security Juan de la Cruz González, and the head of the Penitentiary Service Erika Maidana. The talk was given by the gynecologist from the Breast Pathology service of the Perrando Hospital and in charge of the Breast program, Sandra Barrios.
Ojeda highlighted the joint work of the Health and Safety portfolios and stressed that the coordination of the different areas is a premise of the government. “The important thing about the training, taking into account that breast cancer is a disease that can be detected with the first symptoms, is to raise awareness about the importance of self-examination,” he stressed.
Therefore, this type of talks will be extended to all areas, including schools and health centers. “Although there is a particular day that is commemorated as the fight against breast cancer, it is something that we must talk about every day of the year to raise awareness and guarantee prevention,” he expressed.
The Undersecretary of Security highlighted the great participation of students and agents from the two forces and the importance of training. Meanwhile, Maidana commented that the Penitentiary Service works very hard to prevent different diseases, both for staff and for students and women deprived of their liberty.
The talk is part of the Pink October agenda, within the framework of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” established by the WHO. “In Chaco there are high mortality rates from this disease and to change that we have to do prevention,” Barrios explained.
In the province, more than three cases are diagnosed per week in the hospital service and more than 70 percent arrive in an advanced stage. “Breast self-examination is valuable and should be done from the age of 25 taking into account the alarms, women should not be afraid, they have to control themselves because it is a disease that, if detected in time, can be cured,” he concluded.
